A fatal shooting outside a Sheffield city centre bar has led to a murder charge, with the accused, Jemele Rhone, 30, failing to appear in court. Rhone was due to attend Sheffield Magistrates' Court on charges related to the death of Shanice Brookes, 30, who was described as an 'innocent bystander' killed in the early hours of a recent Monday.
His legal representative stated that Rhone could not be produced in court due to his mental health. An application for him to remain in the cells was granted. Meanwhile, co-defendant Deiryen Dyce, 32, appeared in court, charged with assisting an offender.
Both Rhone and Dyce were remanded in custody, with their cases set for a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on June 1. South Yorkshire Police also charged Rhone with possession of a firearm and criminal property, while Dyce faces additional charges including possession of ammunition and drugs with intent to supply.
Shanice Brookes, a resident of Sheffield, was pursuing a degree in creative practice at Sheffield College and volunteered with a local charity, Zest. Colleagues remembered her as an 'exceptional student' and 'beautiful soul' who inspired many with her positive outlook and dedication.
