Summary
- Over 40 dogs discovered in squalid conditions at Sheffield allotment.
- Some dogs suffered health issues, with several needing to be euthanized.
- Woman received a suspended sentence and a seven-year animal ban.
In May 2024, authorities discovered more than 40 dogs in deplorable conditions at an allotment on Infield Lane in Sheffield. The animals were found panting for water in kennels with concrete floors and insufficient bedding.
Some dogs presented with skin and mobility problems, while others were so unwell that they had to be euthanized. Veterinary examinations indicated the dogs had been utilized for breeding purposes.
A 51-year-old woman was given an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Sheffield Magistrates' Court. She was also ordered to perform 120 hours of unpaid work and is now disqualified from owning animals for seven years.
Two unregistered XL bullies were among the animals seized by South Yorkshire Police and the RSPCA. The officer in charge described the scene as heartbreaking, noting that many rehabilitated dogs found new homes.
