Summary
- Wealthy socialite Shakereh Khaleeli disappeared in April 1991.
- Her skeletal remains were found buried alive in a wooden box.
- Second husband Swami Shradhananda was convicted of her murder.

In April 1991, Bengaluru socialite Shakereh Khaleeli disappeared, leaving her family searching for answers for three years. Her second husband, Swami Shradhananda, offered shifting explanations while she lay buried beneath their home.
In May 1994, police unearthed a horrific truth: Shakereh's skeletal remains were found inside a wooden box in her courtyard, indicating she was buried alive. Her desperate struggle for survival was suggested by a hand clutching the mattress.
Shradhananda, who had reinvented himself from a modest background, had gained Shakereh's trust and access to her wealth. Prosecutors argued his motive was greed, not love, leading to a meticulously planned murder.
Convicted in 2005 and initially sentenced to death, Shradhananda's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without remission by the Supreme Court in 2008.
This chilling case of wealth, deception, and a hidden grave was recently brought to a new generation through the 2023 docuseries "Dancing on the Grave."
