Summary
- Mastermind lured women with money to target wealthy men.
- Syndicate used dating apps to record victims for blackmail.
- Nagpur Police uncovered over 400 explicit videos during investigation.
A complex blackmail syndicate that preyed on wealthy men through dating applications has been dismantled by Nagpur Police. The alleged mastermind, Aditya Gupta, a 35-year-old from Agra who resided in Pune, was apprehended on Wednesday. Gupta reportedly recruited women by offering them substantial sums of money, ranging from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
These women were instructed to create profiles on dating apps like Mika to connect with affluent individuals. Intimate video calls were secretly recorded. Gupta then leveraged these recordings, posing as a legal advisor, to pressure victims into paying crores to settle alleged harassment complaints and avoid FIRs.
Suspicion arose when Gupta's excessive involvement in cases came to light. Police acted by pretending to cooperate, then gaining the trust of a recent victim, Irfan. This led to Gupta's arrest and the discovery of over 400 explicit videos on his phone. Investigations are ongoing to determine the number of women involved and victims across major cities.
