Tear Gas Deployed at Walmart Over Toddler's Death

A protest took place on June 16 at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, following a fatal police shooting. The demonstration occurred two days after a police officer shot into a vehicle on June 14, resulting in the death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley. This shooting happened during a response to a shoplifting call.

The officer involved in the incident was placed on leave by the city of Senatobia on June 16. On the day of the protest, armed individuals, who stated they were off-duty officers providing security, were visible outside the store. Reporters were asked to leave the property by law enforcement.

Activists and Kohen Wiley's family members later arrived with photographs and signs that read "Justice for Kohen." They were initially asked by police not to tape signs to the store's exterior wall, a request with which they complied after a discussion with officers. The following day, June 17, the Walmart parking lot returned to normal activity, though some shoppers expressed curiosity and unease about the prior police presence.
