An incident in Sutton-in-Ashfield town centre led to the arrest of two men yesterday afternoon. Police received reports of an off-road biker riding erratically while brandishing a garden scythe and making threats.
The rider reportedly crashed into a kerb, dropping the weapon. Another person then picked up the scythe and got onto the back of the bike. Officers quickly responded to the call made around 12:10 BST.
During a search of the area, police located a motorbike on Mapplewells Road, along with a garden scythe. Two suspects were found and arrested. The men, aged 20 and 35, were taken into custody on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, a bladed article, and affray.
The 20-year-old also faces charges for dangerous driving and other related driving offences. Inspector Keith Croft stated that while no injuries occurred, the event caused considerable alarm. He firmly condemned the actions, emphasizing there is no excuse for using bladed weapons to threaten the public.
