Authorities in Savannah are intensifying their search for an attacker who subjected a woman to a violent acid assault in Forsyth Park over a week ago. The FBI and local police are requesting that residents with security camera footage from the evening of December 10th come forward. They are particularly interested in any visual records capturing pedestrian activity in the vicinity of the park between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM.
The victim, Ashley Wasielewski, sustained third-degree burns across more than 50% of her body during the incident. She was reportedly walking in the park after attending a Christmas program when the unprovoked attack occurred. A bystander discovered Wasielewski and contacted her son, reporting her screams of pain. She described a shadow approaching her from behind before a liquid, confirmed to be acid, was poured over her head.
In an effort to gather crucial evidence, the FBI has announced a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the perpetrator. A digital tip line has also been established for submitting photos and videos that may assist investigators. Meanwhile, friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised over $260,000 to support Wasielewski's extensive medical treatment and recovery.
