Reginald Durocher, 68, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing Ryan Clark, the man convicted of his son's murder. The incident took place in the parking lot of Mr. T's Liquor Store in Northside, Saskatchewan, on April 4, 2023.
Durocher accelerated his truck in reverse, striking Clark and causing fatal injuries. Clark had been convicted in 2018 for the 2016 murder of Durocher's son, Christopher. Although Clark's conviction was overturned, a new trial was pending when Durocher committed the offense.
Court heard that Clark had been seen smiling at Durocher's granddaughter, who worked at the store, violating his release conditions. After a confrontation where Clark taunted Durocher, Durocher struck him with his vehicle. Defense counsel described it as a heat-of-the-moment reaction rather than a planned act.
Justice Richard Danyliuk sentenced Durocher to 10 years in prison. He received credit for time served, meaning he has four and a half years left to serve. The vehicle used in the incident was forfeited.
