In Salem, a disturbing incident unfolded resulting in the arrest of a 52-year-old father, Varadharajan, on Tuesday. He is accused of murdering his 22-year-old daughter, Varshini, a homeopathy student, on January 7. Varshini was discovered deceased in her rented accommodation near the Salem Siddhar Temple.
According to police, Varadharajan had visited his daughter on January 6. During this visit, he reportedly learned that Varshini was in a relationship with an older, married man. This revelation allegedly led to a fatal confrontation, with Varadharajan accused of smothering his daughter with a pillow.
The accused had been evading authorities since the discovery of the crime. He was apprehended by Steel Plant police following a tip-off, as he was en route to the Salem district combined court to surrender. He has since been remanded to judicial custody at Salem central prison.
