Russell Brand Trial Delayed to October Amid Allegations
30 Mar
Summary
- Russell Brand faces three rape and three sexual assault charges.
- The trial, initially set for June, is now delayed until October 12.
- Six women allege crimes occurred between 1999 and 2009.

Russell Brand's trial, concerning allegations of rape and sexual assault, has been postponed until October 12. The comedian and actor is accused of three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. These charges stem from allegations made by six women regarding incidents between 1999 and 2009. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The trial was initially scheduled to commence on June 16 this year, with an estimated duration of five weeks. However, fresh charges involving two additional complainants were introduced in January. Mr Justice Bennathan approved the delay at a hearing on Monday to allow sufficient time for the combined case.
The extended trial is now expected to last approximately two months. The judge noted that beginning the proceedings in mid-June could lead to time constraints and difficulties in securing jurors due to the approaching summer holidays. A further two-day pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 16 and 17.
