In Samastipur town, Bihar, two individuals posing as tantriks have allegedly conned a woman out of jewellery amounting to Rs 5 lakh. The incident, which occurred on Arya Samaj Road, involved the fraudsters gaining the victim's confidence by claiming her husband and son faced imminent danger.
The victim, Sangeeta Devi, was reportedly walking home when the men approached her, fabricating a story about an impending accident involving her family. Her prior experience with a recent family accident made her susceptible to their claims. They allegedly disoriented her with a substance before demanding her mangalsutra and earrings.
After performing a ritual, the woman was instructed to walk away and not look back. Upon returning, she discovered the conmen had vanished with her valuables. Law enforcement officials are now examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to identify and apprehend the accused individuals.
