Central Cyber Police in Mumbai have arrested a former branch manager and an employee of a private bank in connection with an alleged Rs 29.83 lakh fraud. The suspects are accused of siphoning funds from the account of a deceased customer.
In July 2025, the bank received a complaint about unauthorized changes to the registered mobile number and email ID of late Vimla Patil. An internal inquiry revealed these details were altered using a forged customer request form, with signatures allegedly not matching bank records.
During the inquiry, an employee reportedly stated that the former branch head instructed him to make the changes. Subsequently, the altered details were used to prematurely close two fixed deposits totaling Rs 14.87 lakh.
The stolen funds were transferred through RTGS, NEFT, UPI, IMPS, and mobile banking to various accounts. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on the alleged conspiracy, the money trail, and the role of an absconding employee.
