Azamgarh police have executed a major crackdown on organised crime by attaching immovable property valued at around Rs 10 crore. The assets belong to Krishnachandra Rai, a jailed land mafia operative accused of accumulating wealth through fraudulent land dealings and forgery.
Rai, currently held in Ambedkar Nagar jail, faces multiple charges and has been booked under the Gangsters Act. Investigations revealed he acquired land in Gram Kodar Azmatpur since 2012, using illicit funds. A multi-storey building constructed on this land, which served as a criminal planning hub, has now been seized.
The attached property's market value was assessed at Rs 10 crore by the revenue department with PWD assistance. Court evidence indicates Rai lacked legitimate income sources to fund the construction or associated loans, reinforcing the illicit origin of the wealth.
Rai has a substantial criminal record, with 16 cases registered against him. These charges encompass cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, kidnapping, and violations of the Gangsters Act.
