A Romanian couple has received 17-year prison sentences for their involvement in a crime spree that resulted in the deaths of two men. Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, admitted to the manslaughter of Gary Mouat and Malcolm King. They also pleaded guilty to administering a dangerous sedative, gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), to two other male victims.
Mihai posed as an online sex worker, meeting men at their homes while Dumitru waited nearby. Inside, Mihai would spike drinks with GBL, incapacitating the victims. The couple then stole cash, jewelry, and other valuables. Two men died from the effects of the sedative, while two others survived the attacks.
During sentencing, the judge emphasized the couple's greed and their failure to comprehend the danger of GBL, noting they left victims in a dangerous state of unconsciousness. The devastating impact of the crimes was highlighted by victim impact statements, including one from Mouat's young son.
