20 Apr
Summary
- Thief used fake heartbreak to steal Rolex.
- An £11,000 Rolex was stolen during a hug.
- Brave bystander tackled thief, recovering watch.

A cunning thief employed a false display of heartbreak to pilfer an expensive Rolex watch from a club-goer. Constantin Iosif feigned devastation over a recent breakup to elicit sympathy from his victim, Mateusz Matlin.
During a staged embrace, Iosif swiftly removed the £11,000 Rolex from Mr. Matlin's wrist. The ploy was short-lived as a vigilant member of the public intervened, rugby tackling the fleeing thief.
The stolen Rolex, a cherished 21st birthday gift, was subsequently discovered concealed within Iosif's shoe at the police station.
Iosif, who has a history of theft convictions, admitted to the robbery and a charge of failing to surrender. He received a 20-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, along with rehabilitation requirements and unpaid work.
In defense, Iosif's lawyer asserted that he has been making significant strides to reform his life since 2023, pursuing business studies and engaging in religious practices. The judge acknowledged the fortunate intervention by a bystander that prevented the complete loss of the valuable watch.
