Rob and Michele Reiner, parents of filmmaker Rob Reiner, were discovered deceased in their Los Angeles residence on Sunday, December 14. Authorities were called to the home around 3:30 p.m. and found the couple, aged 78 and 68, who had been fatally stabbed.
Law enforcement sources confirm that the victims are Rob and Michele Reiner. Their son, Nick Reiner, is currently missing and is considered a suspect in connection with the incident. Nick has publicly shared his past struggles with severe drug addiction, which began in his early teens and led to periods of homelessness.
Nick Reiner's experiences with addiction, including living on the streets, were the basis for the semi-autobiographical film "Being Charlie." Despite past challenges, he had expressed to PEOPLE in 2016 a desire to remain home and re-acclimate with his family in Los Angeles.
