A Rollins College student has been arrested after a semi-automatic rifle was found in his dorm room. Constantine Demtriades, 21, faces a charge of possession of a weapon on school property. The discovery occurred after ammunition purchased online was shipped to his campus address, leading campus officials to investigate.
During the investigation, an unloaded AR-15 rifle was found under Demtriades' bed, along with a loaded magazine and other tactical gear. He told authorities that he shoots as a hobby and possesses a conceal and carry permit in New Jersey, having recently returned from Thanksgiving break. Demtriades stated he had no bad intentions and typically kept his firearm at a friend's house.
Rollins College confirmed an investigation was initiated upon receiving a report of a weapons policy violation. The student fully cooperated with college officials and law enforcement. He has been arrested and is not permitted on campus pending the student conduct process. The arrest was made without incident.
