In Rhode Island, a teacher's assistant was arrested following the discovery of a small bag containing cocaine in an elementary school bathroom. Police were called to Chester W. Barrows Elementary School on Thursday, March 12, after a school nurse found the bag in the sink of a restroom used by both staff and students.
Investigators spoke with Stephanie Cicilline Given, a teacher's assistant, who was the last known adult to use the facility. During questioning, she made statements suggesting she might have been involved, including asking about her vape and if she needed a lawyer. She later admitted to occasional cocaine use but denied using it at school.
Given was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of cocaine. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 21. The school district stated it is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation and had notified parents of students who use the affected restroom.
