- He pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced on June 17.
- Victims' families found peace knowing he cannot harm again.

Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann, aged 62, received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole on June 17, 2026. He had previously pleaded guilty in April to the murders of eight women, a plea deal that stipulated three consecutive life sentences plus an additional 100 years.
The judge handed down the sentence, and Heuermann was then escorted from the courtroom. Before the sentencing, several victims' family members addressed Heuermann, expressing that while justice does not bring back their loved ones, it offers peace and ensures the perpetrator cannot harm others.
Heuermann was arrested in July 2023. The murders took place between 1993 and 2010. He admitted to killing Valerie Mack, Jessica Taylor, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, Amber Lynn Costello, and Karen Vergata. He stated that all killings occurred inside his home, except for Sandra Costilla, whom he claimed to have killed spontaneously in his car.
His crimes have gained national attention and were featured in documentaries. Heuermann's family, including his ex-wife Asa Ellerup and daughter Victoria Heuermann, appeared in a Peacock docuseries where Rex admitted his guilt. Ellerup expressed a desire to understand his motivations and the "evil in him."
