Dodgy Box Users Exposed: Revolut Data Shared with Sky
26 Mar
Summary
- Revolut must give Sky subscriber details of 304 users and 10 resellers.
- This action targets illegal streaming of premium content like Premier League.
- A previous case saw an illegal streamer fined €480,000 for damages.

Revolut Bank UAB has been ordered by the Irish High Court to disclose the personal information of 304 subscribers and 10 resellers. This directive facilitates Sky's efforts to combat illegal streaming services that utilize 'dodgy boxes' and 'dodgy Fire Sticks' for accessing premium content. The banking app was used by these individuals to pay resellers of pirated material.
The court's decision follows Sky's pursuit of a Norwich Pharmacal order. This legal tool permits the acquisition of information from third parties implicated in wrongdoing. Sky intends to use these details to pursue legal action against both the resellers and some of the users involved in the illegal streaming operations.
This action is part of a broader campaign against illegal content consumption. Sky previously secured a significant judgment against David Dunbar, an illegal streamer whose payments were processed through Revolut. Dunbar was ordered to pay €480,000 in damages and substantial costs. Information on the Irish users is to be provided to Sky within 28 days on an encrypted spreadsheet.
