In a shocking revelation, a retired veterinarian has admitted to drugging and sexually assaulting two boys at a Christian summer camp, in addition to committing child cruelty against six other victims. The 76-year-old man, Jon Ruben, has confessed to these heinous crimes that occurred at a summer camp held in Leicestershire, UK, last year.
Ruben, who is from Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, laced sweets with tranquilizing drugs and then attacked the children under the guise of a "sweet game." For many years, he had been running the holiday camp, where children had often felt ill the next day, but he had always explained it away as them being "overwrought."
Before retiring, Ruben spent over 40 years as a veterinarian after qualifying from the Royal (Dick) Vet School in Edinburgh in 1972. He later completed a PhD in virology, studying Newcastle Disease Virus in chickens. Ruben also worked as a locum vet and as a children and youth worker at his church.
The defendant has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 28th, when he will be required to attend via prison video-link. Prosecutors are currently deciding whether to proceed with a second charge of assault by penetration, as Ruben has pleaded not guilty to that particular count.
