On Tuesday, Handi Restaurant, located at Doon Club in Karanpur, was ordered to cease operations following a joint inspection by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Food Safety and Drug Administration. The inspection revealed severe hygiene violations, including the presence of rotten vegetables, food items stored for multiple days, and a significant rodent infestation.
Authorities found various issues such as old rice, dough stored for several days, and nearly week-old ingredients for momos and chow mein. The kitchen also showed signs of cockroaches and rats, with rodents having damaged spice packets. Unhygienic utensil washing areas and accumulated garbage were also noted.
The restaurant failed to provide essential documentation like employees' medical fitness records and pest-control reports. Food safety teams collected samples for testing and destroyed a substantial quantity of stale food. The establishment has been given 14 days to address all deficiencies, with a follow-up inspection scheduled to ensure compliance. Failure to meet these standards may result in the suspension of its food license.
