A mum sustained devastating injuries and was left trapped in her car after a reckless Audi driver, Azam Adal, collided with her vehicle. Adal was travelling at an estimated 90mph on a blind corner when he struck the Toyota Yaris near Birmingham City's football ground on March 29, 2024.
Following the collision, Adal fled the scene and asked a bystander to drive him to a hospital. He then contacted his brother-in-law, Luqmaan Ali, who owned the Audi, to retrieve the keys and falsely report the car as stolen to the police.
The victim suffered multiple severe injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain, requiring extensive hospitalization and ongoing care. Her life, including her ability to care for her children and her aspirations of becoming a nurse, was profoundly impacted.
Adal pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison, along with a six-year driving ban. Ali admitted to perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
