- The plaintiff seeks damages for physical and emotional harm from the incident.
A lawsuit was filed on May 13 in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster alleging a man was attacked by a police dog during a search in 2024. Nevon Calvin Neish claims two Prince George RCMP officers had their guns drawn when he exited his home.
According to the civil claim, officers, accompanied by a police service dog named Natz, were searching for a suspect and asked to inspect a backyard shed. It is alleged that Natz then exited the shed and attacked Neish, biting his right arm.
The lawsuit states the attack was unprovoked and that Neish was not a suspect. He is seeking damages for physical and emotional suffering, including puncture wounds and psychological trauma, as well as medical costs and compensation for negligence.
The RCMP's E Division stated they would not comment on the lawsuit but would issue a formal response through the court process. B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office confirmed it was not notified of the incident. Natz, the police dog involved, reportedly had three years of service with the RCMP as of a 2025 social media post.
