Summary

- Trennan had previously confessed to enjoying violent, non-consensual sex.
- A judge stated Trennan posed immense and enduring dangers to women.

Neil Trennan, a convicted sex offender, has been handed his third life sentence at Sheffield Crown Court. This follows his failure to return from day release to North Sea Camp in Boston, Lincolnshire, in July of last year. During this period, Trennan attacked a female student in her home while armed with a knife.
The court heard that Trennan, who was serving time for a 1991 rape conviction, had previously absconded from jail in 2002. He had confessed to parole boards that he derived arousal from violence and enjoyed violent, non-consensual sex.
The student managed to knock the knife from Trennan's hand and lock herself in the bathroom. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC stated that Trennan posed immense and enduring dangers to women and it was likely never safe for him to be released. The judge also noted the decision to grant him unsupervised release was unwise given his history.
