Rajasthan Lawyers Strike Over Weekend Court Work
25 Jan
Summary
- Lawyers boycotted court proceedings in Rajasthan.
- Protest against declaring two Saturdays monthly as working days.
- Bar associations to meet on Jan 27 for further action.

Judicial proceedings at both benches of the Rajasthan High Court were significantly affected on Saturday. Lawyers across the state boycotted court sessions in protest against an administrative decision that mandates two Saturdays per month as working days.
The boycott was a collective, voluntary action called by three prominent bar associations: the Rajasthan High Court Advocates' Association, Jodhpur; the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers' Association, Jodhpur; and the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur. These associations clarified that no coercion was used to enforce the boycott.
Representatives from the bar associations articulated their concerns, stating that the new policy adversely impacts advocates' professional schedules, family life, and overall work-life balance. They also pointed out that the decision to expedite case disposal was made without sufficient consultation with the legal community.
Advocates noted that a committee of judges was formed to review their objections, but its report has not been made public, and no decisions have been communicated. Consequently, the bar associations announced a joint meeting on January 27 to deliberate on the next steps, which may include continuing the boycott or exploring alternative protest methods.
