On Thursday morning, eight NYPD officers were injured responding to a domestic dispute in Queens, New York. The incident began with a 911 call reporting a male relative intoxicated and armed with a knife, also noting a smell of gas. Officers arrived at the residence in Ozone Park, but as they attempted to enter, a fiery explosion occurred, violently throwing them from their feet.
Body camera footage captured the shocking blast. Despite being injured and caught in debris, the officers immediately focused on rescuing individuals inside. They successfully removed crying children and other occupants from the engulfed building, preventing further loss of life. The suspect, identified as Anroop Parasaram, 50, who had previous protection orders against him, is still unaccounted for.
Following the explosion and fire, sixteen residents from the home and nearby properties were displaced. The injured officers were treated for minor burns and lacerations, with one requiring stitches. Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed gratitude for the bravery of the NYPD and FDNY responders and pledged support for displaced residents. The investigation and search for the suspect are ongoing.
