Quebec Court Halts Donor Over 600 Offspring
21 Mar
Summary
- Sperm donor and son temporarily barred from donating.
- Accused of fathering hundreds of children, far exceeding agreed limits.
- Court cited risks to children and families from excessive donations.
A man and his son in Quebec have been temporarily barred from donating sperm by the Superior Court. This injunction was granted as part of a lawsuit filed by a woman who claims the two men violated their agreement to limit sperm donations.
The plaintiff alleges that one man agreed to stop donating after fathering 25 children, and the other after 10. However, court documents indicate one man is linked to over 450 children and the other to more than 160.
Justice Simon Chamberland stated that the number of children conceived by the defendants far exceeds expert recommendations. He emphasized that each additional donation increases potential prejudice against the plaintiff and her four children, who were conceived using the defendants' sperm.
The defendants reportedly deny agreeing to stop donating but admit to fathering more children than the plaintiff claims. The injunction will remain in place while the court considers the full merits of the case.
