Kollam Temple Blast: Court Seeks More Evidence

The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court in Kollam has adjourned proceedings in the Puttingal Devi Temple blast case until February 28. This delay allows the prosecution to organize and present witness statements and crucial documentary evidence. The court also reissued an arrest warrant for Anuraj, the 30th accused, who is currently absconding.

The devastating firework accident occurred at the Puttingal Devi Temple in Paravoor on April 9, 2016. This event stands as one of Kerala's most tragic disasters, claiming the lives of 110 individuals and leaving 656 others injured. Extensive damage was also reported, with 358 houses impacted and significant financial losses incurred.

During the recent hearing, defense counsel raised concerns regarding the investigation's procedural conduct and the non-production of certain records. The prosecution requested additional time, citing the investigating officer's retirement and health issues, to compile the vast evidentiary base, which includes 1,417 witnesses and 1,611 documents.

Of the original 59 accused, 15 have since passed away. The court directed that all compiled records and material objects be submitted in a separate list for thorough consideration. Special public prosecutor K. P. Jabbar and advocate Ambili Jabbar are representing the prosecution in this complex case.
