In Jalandhar, Punjab, a woman has lodged a serious accusation against her former husband, claiming he sold their 16-day-old son for Rs 5 lakh, allegedly to finance his drug addiction. The woman, Shivani, stated that her ex-husband, Shiva, re-entered her life after her separation from her second husband, initially regaining her trust by assisting during her pregnancy and childbirth at Civil Hospital on May 21st. She alleges Shiva, his current wife, and another woman were involved in the newborn's care, with Shiva's wife even breastfeeding the child.
Four days after the birth, on May 25th, Shiva allegedly arranged for a woman to take the baby for vaccination from their rented accommodation. The baby vanished with the woman, and Shivani has not seen him since. Conflicting accounts followed; first, she was told by Shiva's current wife that the baby had died and was buried. Later, an unknown woman from Amritsar called Shivani, claiming the child was with her and demanding the money back, but disconnected when Shivani started recording the call.
Shivani also reported seeing an Instagram story from Shiva showing bundles of cash, which she believes was from the child's sale, used to purchase household items. She further accused Shiva of threatening her with a pistol when she questioned him about the baby's whereabouts and warned her against contacting authorities. The Police Commissioner has ordered an investigation into the disappearance, the alleged sale, and the circumstances surrounding the infant's removal.
