In a significant law and order initiative, Punjab police apprehended over 3,200 wanted criminals during a 72-hour operation named Prahar-2. This extensive crackdown, launched on Monday, involved more than 12,000 personnel organized into over 2,000 teams who conducted 8,278 raids across the state. The operation successfully rounded up 7,498 individuals, with 3,260 facing arrest, including 135 proclaimed offenders.
During the drive, police teams made substantial seizures, recovering 47 weapons, 4.8 kg of heroin, 3.6 kg of opium, 42,797 intoxicant pills, 68 kg of poppy husk, and Rs 30 lakhs in cash. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla reported these outcomes, highlighting the operation's success.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that Operation Prahar-2 exceeded expectations and affirmed the continuation of the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign until Punjab is free from gangsterism. Residents are encouraged to report criminal information via the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946. Separately, an ongoing anti-drug drive, 'Yudh Nashian Virudh,' on its 347th day on Wednesday, led to the arrest of 164 drug smugglers and the recovery of 11.9 kg of heroin and intoxicant tablets.
