Pune Village Erupts in Violence Over Flag Hoisting

A flag-hoisting ceremony in Dhamane village, Maval taluka, Pune, devolved into violence on Monday morning. The incident began with a heated argument between the deputy sarpanch and a gram panchayat member, which quickly escalated. The dispute intensified when relatives of the gram panchayat member allegedly stormed the deputy sarpanch's home, assaulting his family members with an axe and sticks. Four individuals sustained serious injuries during this assault. Police have registered a case against seven suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to attempted murder and rioting. A counter-complaint was filed by a relative of the gram panchayat member, alleging that four people from her family were attacked with sticks by six members of the deputy sarpanch's family following the initial altercation. Police are continuing their investigation into both complaints, and no arrests have been made as of the report.
