In Pune, three 15-year-old boys were detained on January 29, 2026, by Alankar police in connection with the murder of a peer. The victim, also 15, was reportedly killed over a friendship with a girl.
The investigation began after the victim's mother reported him missing on January 28, 2026. Digital evidence revealed a fake social media account, using a girl's photos and name, was created to lure the victim out.
During questioning, the primary suspect confessed that he and two accomplices murdered the victim on January 26, 2026. They allegedly used the fake profile to arrange a meeting before bludgeoning him and dumping his body in the Mula river.
Searches for the body in the Mula river were conducted by police and fire brigade but were unsuccessful. All involved teenagers were residents of Kothrud, were school dropouts, and engaged in odd jobs.
