Pune Road Rage: Stone Hurls Cause Severe Eye Damage
14 Dec
Summary
- Woman's vision uncertain after road rage stone attack.
- Car brushed against a bike, triggering a violent argument.
- Three men detained but released after FIR registration.

A severe road rage incident near Pune's Punawale underpass resulted in a young woman sustaining a critical eye injury. The incident occurred on December 6 when the car carrying Puja Gupta, 28, allegedly made contact with a motorcycle carrying three men. An ensuing argument escalated when one of the men hurled a stone, breaking the car's windscreen.
The situation worsened when the couple's car was later trapped in a traffic jam. The assailants caught up and smashed the remaining windows. A piece of shattered glass flew into Gupta's left eye, necessitating emergency surgery to save her vision. Over a week post-operation, her sight remains uncertain, with doctors concerned about permanent damage.
Gupta, an HR professional, has taken a month's leave and expressed her distress, highlighting the potential life-altering impact if her vision is not fully restored. While the three accused were detained and served notices under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Gupta has requested attempted murder charges. Experts attribute the rise in such incidents to deteriorating law and order and a perceived 'glamour' of crime.
