In Pune, three police personnel, including an Instagram-famous officer, are facing charges for allegedly extorting ₹7 lakh from a 55-year-old school principal. The accused are identified as Sonali Hinge, a member of the Damini squad with a large social media following, Police Sub-Inspector Ajit Bade, and Constable Sudam Tayade.
Authorities allege the trio threatened to implicate the principal in a fabricated Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case. They are said to have leveraged their positions to instill fear, demanding the substantial sum to prevent legal action and public disgrace.
The principal, reportedly fearing severe consequences for his reputation and career, complied with the demand and paid the ₹7 lakh. Subsequently, his doubts prompted him to file a complaint with senior police officials.
Investigators discovered the officers had visited the school under the guise of conducting an awareness session. They allegedly used this opportunity to identify and target the principal for their scheme. PSI Ajit Bade is attached to the Cyber Police Station, while Sonali Hinge and Sudam Tayade belong to the Shivajinagar Police Station. A formal inquiry was ordered by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, leading to the registration of a case against all three accused.
