A violent incident occurred at Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital in Hadapsar, Pune, when relatives of a deceased 77-year-old patient engaged in vandalism. The group allegedly pelted stones and damaged property, including glass panes and windows, following the patient's death on Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported during the commotion.
According to hospital officials, the patient was admitted for acute pancreatitis and had undergone a successful surgical procedure. However, his condition worsened due to long-standing comorbidities, and despite counseling, relatives became abusive and resorted to destruction. The hospital emphasized that all medical interventions were in line with national and international guidelines.
Authorities have registered a case against seven individuals under relevant sections of the law and the Prohibition of Violence Act. Four suspects have been detained, and investigations are ongoing to determine the sequence of events. The hospital condemned the violence, citing risks to patients and staff, and has filed a police complaint for property loss.
