In Pune, a self-styled guru, Radhamohan Mishra, and his seven associates, including six women, were apprehended on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, following a complaint by a 41-year-old woman. The guru, originally from Haryana and based in Pune for eight years, allegedly preyed on individuals seeking solutions for health and family issues.
Authorities revealed that Mishra, who identified himself as a divine incarnation, subjected the victim to physical, sexual, and mental abuse for approximately 15 years, beginning in 2001. His alleged offenses included coerced sexual acts, forced consumption of his urine, electric shocks, and compelling the victim to divorce her husband and transfer property. He also reportedly manipulated her family against her.
Investigators discovered extensive evidence at the ashram, including 19 hard disks, 12 laptops, and jewelry worth Rs 15 lakh. A significant finding was evidence of an planned escape route via an underground tunnel, which was reportedly under construction. The guru had disciples across several northern Indian states and Maharashtra, with many visitors frequenting his ashram.
The victim, initially a follower of Mishra, managed to escape after breaking surveillance cameras. She approached the police with her family, whose blind faith was broken upon hearing the details of the abuse. The accused were remanded in police custody until June 20, 2026, with charges including sexual assault and black magic practices.
