A 24-year-old man from Katraj was apprehended by the Pune city crime branch on Friday, June 27, 2026, with opium valued at Rs 36 lakh. The operation took place in Ambegaon Pathar around 2:15 PM.
The accused, Devendrasingh Premsingh Shaktawat, originally from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, was reportedly running three ice cream handcarts in Pune. He is alleged to have purchased the opium from his native place with the intention of selling it in Pune to earn quick money.
In addition to the significant quantity of opium, the police confiscated a car and a mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs 4 lakh. This brings the total value of the seized items to Rs 40 lakh. Authorities have registered a case against Shaktawat at the Ambegaon police station and are actively working to identify his potential customers.
