A Punjabi entertainment producer has been subjected to a 15-day ordeal involving extortion calls and death threats originating from Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The producer, known in the industry as Sammy Oberoi, reported to investigators that the primary caller identified himself as Kulveer Singh Sidhu. This individual threatened the producer and his family with death unless a sum of ₹2 crore was paid.
To demonstrate his capabilities, the extortionist provided specific details about Harshdeep Singh's personal vehicles, including the one used for his children's school commute. The suspect further bolstered his claims by asserting responsibility for a recent firearm incident targeting a Canadian café owned by prominent Indian comedian and television host Kapil Sharma. When communication ceased via calls, the perpetrator resorted to sending threatening text messages.
Authorities have officially registered a first-information report under Section 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to extortion. Specialist technicians from the police's cybercrime unit have been mobilized to investigate the digital path of these international calls.
