Summary
- A prison officer was jailed for having a relationship with an inmate.
- The inmate was serving a life sentence for murder.
- Messages on her phone confirmed the relationship.

Rebecca Green, a 29-year-old prison officer, received a sentence of one year and four months for misconduct in public office. She admitted to having a relationship with inmate John Otugade, who was serving a minimum 25-year sentence for murder. The affair commenced in October 2022 at HMP Whitemoor.
Authorities became suspicious in the spring of 2023. This led to Otugade being moved to HMP Belmarsh as an investigation began. Officers found messages on Green's seized mobile phone that clearly indicated she was in a relationship with the prisoner. Otugade had also added a phone number matching Green's to his approved contacts list, labelled 'partner'.
