In Inam Veerapur village, Dharwad district, a 20-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her family on Sunday night. Manya Patil, who was seven months pregnant, had married Vivekanand Doddamani, a Dalit man, in May 2025, defying her family's objections.
Her father and two relatives are accused of fatally assaulting her with sprinkler pipes. Following her death, police arrested the father and two relatives. The incident has led to protests by Dalit activists demanding justice.
Police reported that Manya's family also attacked her husband's parents and relatives. Initial findings suggest caste opposition was the motive. District officials condemned the killing and vowed severe punishment for the offenders.
