A horrific car crash on November 18 claimed the lives of a pregnant 20-year-old woman, Adilene Duran, and another motorist, 38-year-old Edward Garcia. The incident unfolded at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard when a vehicle, reportedly driven by Duran's boyfriend, Jose Gutierrez, 19, sped into a line of stopped cars.
Witnesses reported that Gutierrez was traveling at over 100 mph, failing to slow for a red light. His vehicle slammed into the back of another car, initiating a chain reaction that involved 11 other vehicles. The crash resulted in a fiery blaze and significant destruction. Duran was ejected from the vehicle, and Gutierrez sustained serious injuries.
Jose Gutierrez has been charged with two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and battery with a deadly weapon. Authorities are investigating the possibility of impairment due to the suspect's speed and failure to stop. Gutierrez is being held without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on January 6, 2026.
