25 Oct
Summary
- Minor girl sexually assaulted by four individuals over 8 months
- Victims befriended on Instagram, assaults occurred in forest and farms
- Suspects arrested following complaint filed by victim's mother

On October 25, 2025, the Hangal police arrested four individuals in connection with the alleged sexual assault and rape of a minor girl. The incidents occurred eight months ago but came to light recently when the victim was found to be seven months pregnant during a routine health check-up.
The investigation revealed that the first suspect, Uday Rangappa Kariyannavar, had befriended the girl on Instagram when she was in Class 10. Their connection later developed into a romantic relationship, and on March 4, 2025, Uday took the girl to a forest area in Shiragod and sexually assaulted her. Later that month, Uday raped the girl in his relative's farmland in Anavatti while she was visiting her friend's house.
The second suspect, Kishan Venkatesh Vaddar, also got in touch with the girl on Instagram and established a romantic relationship. Kishan later met the girl at a mango farm on the outskirts of Hangal town and sexually assaulted her.
The third and fourth accused, Akash Parashuram Mantagi and Chandru Shivaji Gollar, were aware of the girl's minor status but still assisted Kishan in raping her.
The Hangal police have arrested the four suspects following a complaint filed by the girl's mother. "An FIR has been registered under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. We have arrested four individuals, and further investigation is underway," said Yashodha Vantagodi, Superintendent of Police, Haveri.
