1 Oct
Summary
- Bombay High Court discharged Rahul Raj Singh from abetment charges.
- Pratyusha Banerjee's parents had accused Singh of abuse.
- Last conversation was key to the discharge ruling.

In a significant development, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday discharged Rahul Raj Singh from the abetment to suicide case concerning the death of actor Pratyusha Banerjee. The decade-old case, which has seen Pratyusha's parents accuse Singh of physical, emotional, and financial abuse, took a turn with this High Court ruling.
Singh, Banerjee's live-in partner and the one who found her deceased in April 2016, had been facing charges after an FIR was registered. The Dindoshi Sessions court had previously rejected his discharge plea, ordering him to stand trial.
However, the High Court bench relied heavily on the last conversation between Banerjee and Singh before her death. Advocates for Singh argued this conversation revealed Singh pleading with Banerjee not to take extreme steps while en route to meet her. This evidence was instrumental in granting Singh anticipatory bail in 2016 and ultimately led to his discharge.
Pratyusha Banerjee was well-known for her role as Anandi in the popular television series Balika Vadhu. Her death at 24 had sent shockwaves through the industry and her fans.
