Gross Misconduct: Officers Warned Over Patient Abuse

Two police officers, PC Tyler Harris and PC Stuart Baker, have been handed final written warnings following a gross misconduct hearing concerning their treatment of a woman in a mental health crisis. The incident occurred at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in May 2024.
The disciplinary panel found PC Baker pushed the woman, who was handcuffed, to the floor. PC Harris used offensive language and kicked the woman after she attempted to assault him. The officers were found to have breached the force's behaviour standards.
Deputy Chief Constable Katy Barrow-Grint stated that while the incident was challenging, the officers did not appropriately protect and care for the patient. The warnings will remain on their records for two and four years respectively.
