- Prosecutors confirmed police actions did not cause the death.

Aurora police officers have been cleared by Kane County prosecutors in the March death of Irving Martinez, 30, who succumbed to a cocaine overdose. The incident unfolded at a Speedway gas station on Farnsworth Avenue when officers responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in a bathroom.
Upon arrival, officers found Martinez screaming and causing significant damage, including tearing a toilet from the wall. He claimed to have consumed potent cocaine. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation and administer a sedative, Martinez became unresponsive. Although paramedics performed CPR and transported him to a hospital, he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be a cocaine overdose, with heart disease as a contributing factor. State's Attorney Jamie Mosser stated that the officers' use of restraint did not contribute to Martinez's death. The investigation concluded that police had probable cause for arrest, followed department policies, and acted lawfully throughout the confrontation.
