12 Oct
Summary
- Over 20,000 police deployed to schools to ensure safety.
- Prime Minister Tusk vows to combat rising youth violence.
- Three stabbing attacks at educational institutions reported recently.
Authorities in Poland initiated a major police operation on Monday to bolster school security following a series of three recent stabbing incidents. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has committed to confronting what he described as an escalating wave of youth violence.
While officials have dismissed links to online challenges, Tusk highlighted the detrimental effect of online violence glorification on youth. He noted a concerning global rise in fascination with violence, attributing it to factors like Nazi ideology, a "cult of strength," and violent computer games.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski announced that more than 20,000 police officers would be present in schools on Monday. This surge in police presence aims to convey a resolute message against attacks on children and the descent of public life into disorder.
Police reported inspecting 80,000 educational institutions and detaining 135 individuals since Friday. One incident involved a boy who simulated school attacks within the Roblox game and was found with weapons. The most recent attack on Saturday injured three people at a college, following earlier incidents on Thursday and Wednesday that resulted in fatalities and injuries.
