Pizza Box DNA Unmasks Serial Killer
25 Feb
Summary
- DNA from a discarded pizza box linked suspect to a victim.
- A former co-worker described suspect's unhealthy eating habits.
- The suspect is charged with seven murders spanning over 13 years.

Alleged serial killer Rex Heuermann was arrested in July 2023, with a discarded pizza box playing a pivotal role in the investigation. Investigators collected DNA from the pizza crust, matching it to evidence found with the remains of Megan Waterman, one of the 'Gilgo Four' victims discovered in December 2010.
A former co-worker described Heuermann, now 63, as "the most unhealthy person" she had ever seen, noting his consistent consumption of fast food and numerous Dunkin' Donuts coffee cups. This habit of 'grab and go' eating reportedly led to the critical evidence being found near his Midtown Manhattan office.
Heuermann is accused of murdering seven women, with his crimes allegedly occurring over a span of more than 13 years. The defense has argued that collecting DNA from the discarded pizza crust violated his constitutional rights, as they await a trial scheduled for the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Details emerged of Heuermann's first night in custody, where he consumed French fries, onion rings, and a Coca-Cola, despite noting he was diabetic. His former colleague also recalled unusual behavior, including a bizarre incident on a cruise where he sent her a note implying he could find her anywhere, highlighting his ego and need to prove himself right.
