Atlanta Police have made the first arrest in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Tianah Robinson, which occurred in Piedmont Park on April 4th. The accused, 17-year-old Kaine Burnette from Macon, North Carolina, surrendered to authorities and faces misdemeanor charges including reckless conduct and illegal firearm discharge.
Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute among a group separate from the official 404 Day festival attendees. Neither Robinson nor the other injured 15-year-old victim were the intended targets. The incident prompted calls for enhanced violence prevention efforts and led Mayor Andre Dickens to reinforce stricter enforcement of the city's youth curfew.
Robinson, who would have begun her junior year at North Clayton High School, was laid to rest on April 18th. The investigation remains active, with officials not yet confirming if Burnette was among the persons of interest previously identified from surveillance footage.
