Phoenix Police Shoot Man After Gunfire

Late Saturday night, police in north Phoenix engaged and wounded an armed man who had reportedly fired a handgun at officers. The encounter began when officers responded to an unrelated call near Cactus Road and Interstate 17. As officers were leaving, an adult male began shouting at them. He then positioned himself behind a block wall, raised a handgun over it, and discharged one round toward the officers.

In response to the gunfire, officers returned fire, striking the individual. The man fled a short distance on foot before collapsing from his injury. Officers approached, took him into custody, and provided immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrived. He was transported to a local hospital and is currently being treated for a non-life-threatening injury following surgery.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety's Major Incident Division is leading the investigation into the incident. The identity of the man shot has not yet been released, and thankfully, no other persons were injured during the event.
